County of Los Angeles
The County of Los Angeles is the largest county in the United States with over 100,000 employees and multiple union groups.
Situation
The County of LA wanted to develop a new approach to health and wellness communication – one that would motivate more employees to actively participate in the enrollment process and wellness programs. Given that 81% of the County’s workforce is represented by unions, it was pivotal that this approach be developed in coordination with union representatives.
Solution
Buck held 30 focus groups with County employees. We then developed a communication strategy that included:
- A compelling, life-style focused employee brand
- A personalized benefit portal
- Online education and decision support tools
- Quarterly wellness newsletters with targeted messaging
Results
Our strategy won the support of County and Union management. 91% of surveyed employees found the benefits website “easy to use,” and 89% said it contained the information they needed. 84% called the Annual Enrollment Highlights Guide “helpful” or “very helpful”.
