When should you self-quarantine or seek a COVID-19 test?

Ways to Keep Yourself and Others Healthy

If you were exposed to a person who is known to have tested positive for the virus

Call your manager and explain that you will be self-quarantining and self-monitoring for 15 days. Call your medical professional for testing.

If you have a fever accompanied by a cough and/or shortness of breath

You must stay home from work and self-quarantine. We also recommend you contact your medical professional for testing.

If you recently traveled to a travel-restricted or banned area

You should self-quarantine for 15 calendar days, self-monitor for fever twice a day and remain alert for coughing or difficulty breathing.

  • If you develop symptoms, call your medical professional and obtain guidance. He or she will provide resources for testing.

Business Travel

  • International travel is not permitted, and many regions (North America and Europe) have stopped all domestic travel.
  • Use your best judgment. If you are not comfortable traveling, let your manager know and perform your duties to the best of your ability without traveling.
  • Should have you questions about travel, reach out to your HR Business Partner.
  • For all in-country and in-region travel, you should follow the directions and guidance provided by the local authorities.
  • Also, take the precautions provided by the CDC. The virus is thought to spread mainly from person-to-person as follows:  Between people who are in close contact with one another (within about 6 feet/2 metres).  Through respiratory droplets produced when an infected person coughs or sneezes. These droplets can land in the mouths or noses of people who are nearby or possibly be inhaled into the lungs.
  • Greeting other individuals. It’s best to NOT shake hands, kiss cheeks or hug. Simply greet others verbally.
  • Take the 24/7 emergency hotline number of the Colfax global insurance provider with you. That number is 312-894-6470. The provider is accessible through our WorldAware service.
  • Associates with underlying medical conditions or who are immune-compromised should avoid any business-related travel.
  • Wash your hands frequently. The CDC indicates that effective hand washing should take at least 20 seconds.

Planes

It may be possible that a person can be infected with COVID-19 by touching a surface or object that has the virus on it and then touching his or her mouth, nose, or eyes. However, this is not thought to be the primary way the virus spreads. You should, however, take the following precautions when traveling.

  • Wipe down your seat, tray table, armrests and seat belt with either an alcohol wipe or hand sanitizer when on a plane or train.

Hotels

When you must stay in a hotel, we recommend the following procedures:

  • Take cleaning wipes with you (e.g., Clorox, Lysol, etc.). if you are traveling by plane, pack wipes in your carry-on bag.
  • Once you enter your room, do not unpack. Instead, take about 10 minutes to wipe down common areas, such as door knobs, sink and toilet handles, light switches and remote-control devices.
  • Place your toiletries on a hand towel beside the sink.
  • Once clean, put the “do not disturb” sign on the door to stop anyone from entering your room when you are out.

Childcare Concerns Related to School Closings

The closing of schools has been increasing as local governments work to contain the spread of the virus. If you are diagnosed with the virus and/or are being tested/have symptoms/have been in contact with someone who has tested positive/have returned from a high-risk area, we will continue your pay. Unless local statutory rules apply, if you need to stay home for other reasons, you will need to use vacation and/or holiday time. To the extent you find yourself in a situation where you do not have daycare and your child’s school is not in session, please contact your local HR manager and he or she will work to schedule you on a different shift that works with your schedule.

Practice social distancing, hand washing and mask/face covering guidelines when you are away from work.
