Can I change the amounts that are being deducted from my paycheck?
Yes. To change how much is being withheld from your paycheck to cover federal income taxes, you may update your federal W4 on the ADP payroll portal. Go to True Blue >> Manage Pay >> About Me >> Withholding Information. To change your state income tax withholding, go to True Blue >> Manage Pay >> My Forms.
I have garnishments coming out of my pay. Will that continue?
Garnishments will continue unchanged. If your garnishment is based on a percentage of your pay, it will be a reduced amount. Flat dollar garnishments will continue to be taken unless a new court order is provided.
Do I have to pay income taxes on my unemployment compensation? What about the CARES Act Pandemic Unemployment Compensation from the federal government?
Yes. Unemployment compensation—both your state unemployment and the CARES Act Pandemic Unemployment Compensation—is subject to ordinary state and federal income tax, but not Social Security or Medicare taxes (FICA). When you register for unemployment compensation, you will be asked if you would like to have both federal and state income taxes withheld from your unemployment earnings.
